Day 20: National Network to End Domestic Violence
So today was my birthday. I celebrated my 25th! Thanks to all my birthday love and support of my blog! I’m going to write my reflection on #20days20charities tomorrow.For my 20th donation I chose the National Network to End Domestic Violence. I chose to close on this charity because its a rather silent issue that is close to home for me.
The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in the District of Columbia since 1995. It is a network of state domestic violence coalitions, representing over 2,000 member organizations nationwide. The organization advocates for legislation, such as the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act and funding on a national level for state organizations that provide services to victims of domestic violence. The National Network to End Domestic Violence testifies before the U.S. Congress on domestic violence issues to assist state coalitions in better serving the needs of the victim by presenting research on domestic violence issues for pending legislation.

Day 18: Wounded Warrior Project
Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, service and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following the events of 9/11/2001. It operates as a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization with a mission to “honor and empower Wounded Warriors” of the United States Armed Forces, as well as provide services and programs for the family members of its registered “alumni,” as its registered veterans are called.
WWP’s vision is to “foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history,” as it works to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
As of August 1, 2013, WWP serves 35,648 registered alumni and 4,181 registered members, defined as family or caregivers of a registered alumni. In 2012, WWP spent $114,817,090 on programs in support of wounded veterans, their families and their caregivers,[4] while contributing “nearly $5 million in grants to other charities, including the American Red Cross and Resounding Joy, a music therapy group in California, and also provided about $880,000 to nearly 100 veterans in the form of college scholarships and stipends for its year-long TRACK Program, which helps veterans transition to college and the workplace.”[ WWP has also provided funding to, and partnered with, Operation Homefront to “extend emergency financial assistance to military service members and veterans who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, which was not due to their own misconduct, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families.”This emergency assistance will be in the form of cash grants paid to service providers to cover Service members’ most basic of needs, including food, rent and utilities.”

Day 17: ASPCA
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing cruelty towards animals. Based in New York City since its inception in 1866, the organization’s mission is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.
The ASPCA is the nation’s main humane organization, “providing local and national leadership in three key areas: caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals and serving victims of animal cruelty”. Aside from rescuing animals, the ASPCA is also involved with disaster preparedness and management.

Day 16: Project C.U.R.E.
PROJECT C.U.R.E. (Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment) is the registered trademark of the Benevolent Healthcare Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, humanitarian relief organization based in Denver, CO. It is one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the world that delivers medical supplies and equipment to developing countries. Its main purpose is to collect and sort donated medical supplies and equipment from manufacturers, hospitals, and surpluses and then distribute the supplies and equipment to developing countries based on a needs assessment of the local hospitals and clinics in those countries.
Project C.U.R.E. is the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries around the world. Project C.U.R.E. is the recipient of the GuideStar Exchange Silver Seal, the Charity Navigator Four-Star Rating and ranked by Forbes as one of the 20 Most Efficient Large U.S. Charities. Day 15: Charity Water
Charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Founded in 2006, it has helped fund 6,611 projects in 20 countries, benefiting over 2,545,000 people. Overall, the organization has raised over $40 million as of January 15, 2012 100% of all public donations directly fund water projects, and charity:water proves every dollar using photos and GPS coordinates on a map.
FACTS:
- 90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are in children under five years old.
- In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year walking for water. Women and children usually bear the burden of water collection, walking miles to the nearest source, which is unprotected and likely contaminated.
- Time spent walking and resulting diseases keep them from school, work and taking care of their families. Along their long walk, they’re subjected to a greater risk of harassment and sexual assault. With safe water nearby, women are free to pursue new opportunities and improve their families’ lives.
Day 14: First Book
First Book is a non-profit organization based out of Washington D.C. that works towards getting new “age appropriate” books into the hands of children from low-income families. This is one of Oprah’s favorite charities to donate to. 97% of donations provide new books for children in need.
Right now through December 31st, Random House Children’s Books will match donation contribution.
With a $10 donation it can provide 4 new book, $25 can provide up to 10 books! Reading is vital to economic wealth along with the wealth of knowldege. Please donate!
